Another one of Keith’s favorite things is hiking. I love the Hollywood sign, so I figured a hike to the Hollywood sign would be a perfect activity for the day.
We searched a few different websites to try to figure out how to get up there. It seemed best to head up Beachwood Drive and park on the street just before Sunset Ranch. Don’t worry…you can’t miss it because there is a big fence blocking anyone who isn’t going to the ranch from driving further.
The easiest way to make sure you are going the right way during your hike is to just ask people walking down the hill. There are some signs pointing you in the right direction, specifically whether you want to get photos in front of the sign or behind the sign. I also found Dan Simpson’s blog super handy. Things to note when going up to the Hollywood Sign:
- Make sure you aren’t parked more than 18″ away from the curb on Beachwood Drive, or any street in LA apparently. I didn’t realize I was a little too far out (I was on a curve!), and I got a $63 ticket. SO LAME! I’m going to try to call the city and see if I can get them to reduce the fine. I’ll just ask nicely, right Jason Morgan?
- Don’t go at 11:00 AM and hike for 2.5 hours like we did. We were lucky that it was a bit cloudy today and breezy, or these two gingers would have baked in the sun. There is really no shade up there.
- Bring lots of water. We saw one chic with a milk jug full of it. I’m not sure if I would recommend that, but one 16 oz. bottle might not cut it.
After our 6.6 mile hike we hit Blu Jam Cafe to refuel. I was so excited to finally eat here as it always seems to have a wait out the door.
Later that night our friend Joe suggested we watch the CAVS game at The Parlor, so we headed there for a great happy hour and three hours of agony. You can’t win them all.
