Day 31: Tide Pools

Since today is my last day (insert sad face), I wanted to hit the beach. Some of my new LA friends suggested that I check out the tide pools, so we decided to visit Rancho Palos Verdes. After doing a little research (about 4 minutes worth), we headed out to the coast.

Unfortunately the beach parking lot was full, so we were worried that our plans would be ruined. Luckily there was a nice couple passing us heading back to their car, and they told us about this free spot they snagged in front of the fire station up the hill. Score! Crisis averted!

We set off on the short, 20 minute hike out to the tide pools. I’m sure it was pretty hilarious watching me maneuver on top of the rocks, but I managed to stay on my two feet! I really, really wanted to see a starfish while we were out there. Unfortunately, the reports from people coming back from the tip of the rock formations were not favorable. Luckily Keith has great skills in spotting sea life and Elizabeth taught me how to manifest, so we saw five! I was so excited! We also saw sea urchins, tons of crabs and a beautiful Garibaldi.

After our tide pool adventures we decided to grab an oceanfront lunch at Terranea. We were dressed for hiking and not a resort, so we opted for the casual Nelson’s restaurant. Plus it had the best views! The Yelp reviews were not great, but we had a wonderful experience. The service was fantastic, and the food was delicious. It was pricey and finding free parking was a bit annoying, but overall we had a great time.

After our trip to the tide pools we met up with Jenny J, Joe and the twins for happy hour at Plan Check. It was bitter sweet. I feel so blessed to have spent the last month here in LA with my friends, and to be able to spend so much time with the twins when they are just 6-months old. It just went by way too quick.

After dinner I decided to hit Mulholland Drive to say farewell to Los Angeles. I had such an amazing time in your beautiful city, and I will be back!
